Regional Metabolism During Healthy Aging in Mice Brain: A H-[C]-NMR Study
نویسندگان
چکیده
Introduction: Normal aging is associated with a decline in brain function and is a major risk factor for many neurodegenerative diseases. The brain mitochondrial function has been shown to be altered with healthy aging. Despite key role of neurotransmitter in brain function, brain energy metabolism has not been explored during healthy aging. As glutamatergic and GABAergic neurotransmitter energetics is supported by brain oxidative glucose metabolism, normal aging will lead to impairment in glutamate and GABA neurotransmitters pathway. In this study, we have investigated energy metabolism associated with glutamatergic and GABAergic neurons in the cerebral cortex, hippocampus and striatum of young adult and aged C57BL6 mice by using H-[C]-NMR spectroscopy together with infusion of C labeled glucose and acetate.

Longitudinal neurochemical modifications in the aging mouse brain measured in vivo by 1H magnetic resonance spectroscopy.
Alterations to brain homeostasis during development are reflected in the neurochemical profile determined noninvasively by (1)H magnetic resonance spectroscopy. We determined longitudinal biochemical modifications in the cortex, hippocampus, and striatum of C57BL/6 mice aged between 3 and 24 months . The regional neurochemical profile evolution indicated that aging induces general modifications...
متن کاملProtective effect of crocin against d-galactose-induced aging in mice
Objective: Aging is a multifactorial phenomenon, which attribute to different diseases and abnormalities in living systems. Oxidative stress, which is an important factor in aging, exacerbates this process via different mechanisms. Crocin (CR), one of the active components of saffron showed strong antioxidant effects. In the present study, anti-aging property of crocin was investigated in mice....
متن کاملStudy the Effect of Silymarin and Vitamin C in Skin Aging Induced by UVB Rays on the Mice Skin Redox System
Background: Exposure of the skin against occupational hazards is growing every day. Many scientists are trying to identify aspects about the mechanisms of damages done to the skin by them. The skin is the second metabolism organ of the body where redox-dependent metabolic pathways overcome. By considering the UV index, Iranians are at high risk of UVB damage by generation of reactive oxygen spe...
متن کاملAltered brain mitochondrial metabolism in healthy aging as assessed by in vivo magnetic resonance spectroscopy.
A decline in brain function is a characteristic feature of healthy aging; however, little is known about the biologic basis of this phenomenon. To determine whether there are alterations in brain mitochondrial metabolism associated with healthy aging, we combined (13)C/(1)H magnetic resonance spectroscopy with infusions of [1-(13)C]glucose and [2-(13)C]acetate to quantitatively characterize rat...
متن کاملRegional Variations of Metabolite Concentrations in the Rat Brain Assessed with in vivo H MR Spectroscopy at 16.4T
Introduction In vivo H NMR spectroscopy provides a neurochemical profile containing invaluable information associated with energy metabolism, membrane metabolism, antioxidants and osmolytes [1]. Postnatal and regional changes in metabolite concentrations were reported in the rat [2] and the mouse brain [3], even in the very small region of the hypothalamus [4]. All these results demonstrated di...
